ABOUT IBN ARABI
Ibn Arabi, a 12th-century Andalusian mystic, philosopher, and poet, is considered one of the most influential figures in Islamic thought.
Born in Murcia, Spain in 1165, he traveled extensively across the Islamic world, absorbing diverse intellectual traditions and spiritual insights. Known as “Shaykh al-Akbar” (the Greatest Master), Ibn Arabi’s work bridged the gap between rational philosophy and mystical experience, focusing on concepts like wahdat al-wujud (the Unity of Being), which posits that all existence is a manifestation of the Divine.
Ibn Arabi’s influence transcends his own time, with his ideas resonating deeply in both Islamic and Western intellectual circles. His philosophy has inspired countless poets, philosophers, and theologians over centuries, helping to shape the spiritual and intellectual landscape of the Islamic world. His mystical poetry, filled with love and longing for the Divine, has left a lasting legacy on Sufi literature, influencing later poets such as Rumi and Hafiz. Ibn Arabi’s holistic vision of unity and his profound spiritual insights ensure that his work remains relevant in contemporary dialogues around philosophy, spirituality, and the interconnectedness of all beings.
